Tesla Motors Ltd has been working on a million-mile battery set to hit the market “very soon”. This development is part of a plan to introduce long lasting, low cost batteries that would bring electric vehicle prices down to the cost of petrol and diesel cars.
General Motors (GM) are also close to producing their version of the million-mile battery. Also the Chinese comany, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Ltd (CATL), is ready to manufacture a battery that could last over a million miles (1.24 million).
The benefits of this will be a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions across the globe. The battery has the capability to outlast the car which could help increase the resale value of the car, making second hand electric vehicles more popular.
